Design Ideas

Here shown is some of the design ideas in which I could further develop to become my completed piece. Personally I find that the helicopter is my favourite piece of the lot is this down to the fact that the amount of detail which is sone. My personally don’t like the nuts and bolts piece due to the fact that its to simple.

The idea of the gears is personally my favourite idea due to the fact that it is placed in a way that it overlaps the actual clock mechanism. This is to give the illusion that the gears on the clock is actually turning the mechanism itself.

Out of the ideas I feel like I will further develop the idea of the airliner, this is because I feel like I could do more with the airliner compared to anything else

Experimentation Based On Artist Research

Kyle Thompson

For Kyle I decided to take inspiration form his simple leaves on water where he makes one of the areas rather dark then brings a vibrant area to the table such as leaves. For this instance I have used photoshop to make the water darker and cut, while editing the pine leaves to look greener. This allows for a high contrasting in colour (Grey/Green).

Brooke Shaden

For some of the experimentation for Brooke Shaden I have enhanced a random image of google to be high contrasting. This is in my opinion one of the areas in which Brooke dedicates her work.

High Contrasting Colours

Out of the two in which in which I have done I have found that Brooke Shaden work relates to me more due to the fact that it has very high contrasting colours which will be the case with my final piece.

Analysis of FMP

The theme of the FMP is (Final Major Project) assemblage, assemblage can many things such as something being assembled, such as a clock or a car etc. The Oxford English dictionary defines it as “A collection or gathering of things or people.”, “A machine or object made of pieces fitted together.”, “A work of art made by grouping together found or unrelated objects.” and “The action of gathering or fitting things together.”

As a quick look at the word of assemblage, to me, it is seen as something being put together. This project is wanting me to create something which can follow the theme of something being assembled, such as a clock, some of my initial ideas which I could explore are, transport, people, objects and lost and found objects.

Experimentation

Here is some of my final experimentation of the final images to go onto the vinyl clock, the one shown on the left is to show the idea of surrealism, on the clock. The idea for this to be on the clock would be too complex but as an initial idea, it is good. The main reason why I thought of bird wings being on a plane is the idea of the phrase, “Is it a bird, Is it a plane”. The image on the right is a euro fighter typhoon, this image is a more simple image which would be easier to cut out in the vinyl.

Contact Sheets (Duxford Air Museum)

I went Duxford air museum to find which type of aircraft would be best for me to use for my final clock piece such as the vigilant. The day’s main focus was to get photos which may lead to being used in final clock piece. This, in my opinion, may be the case, but in my humble opinion, I prefer to use the typhoon. I decided to stay with the typhoon because of the simplicity of the design as well as the fact that it is a well-known aircraft across the UK.

Plane Parts Mood Board

I have done a mood board to show a representation of the parts which can be found in a typical aircraft. There are some parts of this mood board which contain car parts this is down to the fact that I could not find copyright free images for certain aspects of the mood, e.g. wheels and cylinders.

Review / Reflection

On reflection on this mood board I have decided not use engine parts, this is due to the fact that complex of these images can be to cut out when using a crafting knife.
