Design Ideas

Here shown is some of the design ideas in which I could further develop to become my completed piece. Personally I find that the helicopter is my favourite piece of the lot is this down to the fact that the amount of detail which is sone. My personally don’t like the nuts and bolts piece due to the fact that its to simple.

The idea of the gears is personally my favourite idea due to the fact that it is placed in a way that it overlaps the actual clock mechanism. This is to give the illusion that the gears on the clock is actually turning the mechanism itself.

Out of the ideas I feel like I will further develop the idea of the airliner, this is because I feel like I could do more with the airliner compared to anything else

Experimentation Based On Artist Research

Kyle Thompson

For Kyle I decided to take inspiration form his simple leaves on water where he makes one of the areas rather dark then brings a vibrant area to the table such as leaves. For this instance I have used photoshop to make the water darker and cut, while editing the pine leaves to look greener. This allows for a high contrasting in colour (Grey/Green).

Brooke Shaden

For some of the experimentation for Brooke Shaden I have enhanced a random image of google to be high contrasting. This is in my opinion one of the areas in which Brooke dedicates her work.

Out of the two in which in which I have done I have found that Brooke Shaden work relates to me more due to the fact that it has very high contrasting colours which will be the case with my final piece.

Assemblage (Project Concept)

The concept of, my final major is an assemblage, the area I would like to explore is aviation, while also branching off into surrealism. For this project, I will be looking at different areas of aviation, such as engines, power and the history of aviation, such as the history of gliders. For example, on glides, the most common learning aircraft is the grub tutor. I will be developing this project different typography as well as graphic elements which will be designed in, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. As an initial idea, I would like to explore the concept of creating a clock which would revolve around the theme of aviation, where the hands of the clock would be propellers, like then ones of a biplane. Also, I have the idea of if the concept of my project was to change to motoring I could have the numbers of different models of cars such as “Aston Martin” where number one to ten could be of the DBS series. his would have an appeal to motoring and would also fit around the theme of assemblage as expensive clocks are done by highly skilled craftsmen, while cars can be very complex with the aerodynamics and suspension etc.

Assemblage (Rationale)

Since I started at college back in September, I am now able to understand what typeface is the best for what certain situation, including size of type, leading and tracking, and also the history of type. I have also used photography, which can be very useful for recording and research, animation and digital design, I have also done printmaking, which includes black and white photography as well as blue dying images while trying to get the best whites possible. I am also able to create good compositions with layering shapes, constructing and de-constructing, also using different materials for each print. I have improved my skills when is comes to taking notes and recording information when is comes to contextual studies and looking at artists and movements from history, for example surrealism was a very inspiring movement. Some of the inspiration that I found was from both different movements and also artists. Surrealism is a interesting concept in my eyes as trying out the weird and wonderful makes some interesting concepts such as the work of “Man Ray” his work shows many photos of tears rolling down a very well done up female eye, but the way the photo is taken it gives it a weird mythical feel.
